11.22.63 (2016)

11.22.63 is a miniseries based on the book of the same name written by Stephen King. It premiered back in 2016 and has 10 episodes. This is one of the best on-screen adaptations of any Stephen King work till now. The story revolves around a man named Jake Epping who travels back in time to prevent the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Those who are familiar with Stephen King’s previous work would find the similarities and traits in this tv show.

The show has some mesmerizing cast of James Franco, Sarah Gordon, and George MacKay. The performance of the actors especially James Franco is commendable. The story is not too complex as usual time travel genres are but still it compels its audience to watch the next episode. The show depicts a good picture of the 60s of America and Americans and also counters the social problems in that period. The show asserts various theories regarding John.F.kennedy’s assassination and goes deep into its complexities. This show is more of a thriller-drama rather than sci-fi. If you want to watch a tv show with nail-biting scenes and being on the edge of the seat in every episode than this might be the right show for you.

Despite all this the show still has flaws. Time travel is depicted so easily although time travel is complex. There has been no explanation regarding time travel in the show. The screenplay could have been better as the show kind of got off track with neglecting the prime objective of stopping the assassination for a little time and got curled up into another storyline. The ending was somewhat predictable (at least for me) but still it was satisfying for the audience.

Though this show didn’t get the audience it deserved. It has an IMDb rating of 8.2/10, Rotten tomatoes have rated the show as 83% fresh and 94% like this show and seeing the screenplay, the acting and the direction and camera angles and position I would rate this tv show 4.1/5. You can find this show on streaming websites like Netflix and Hulu so if you are interested and haven’t watched the show yet just grab your pc/mobile and binge-watch the show.
